Classroom Practice

This model is purposely designed to be used as a stimulus for classroom inquiry. It is not deeply scaffolded. The technique is to ask a few probing questions.

Central Concepts

Key Concept:

Temperature is the average kinetic energy, but heat is the sum of potential and kinetic energy. During phase change there is a large change in potential energy; therefore, the relationship between heat and temperature is very different than that you observe in a gas.
